Objective To explore the efect of quantitative acupuncture manipulation on aqueous outflow (F value) in the patient of acute angle-closure glaucoma at “clinical prodromal”.
Methods 198 cases (204 eyes) were randomly divided into 2 groups, experiment group and control group, the F values were detected 3, 6 and 12 months after acupuncture respectively. Also, biochemical analysis of aqueous humor in the rabbit after acupuncture were made.
Results The experiment group 3, 6, and 12 months after treatmet showed obvious effects on the F VALUES (P<0.05), and ion content and osmotic pressure of aqueous humor in the rabbit had significant changes.
Conclusion The quantitative acupuncture manipulation has a significant effect on aqueous outflow and it is one of effective methods for prophylaxis and treatment of glaucoma.

ABSTRACT
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture on ophthalmoplegia and explore the mechanism.
Methods 76 cases of ophthalmoplegia of various types were treated by acupuncture, and the sizes of palpebral fisure and pupil and the range of ocular movement were determined before and after treatment. Results 57 cases werecured accounting for 75.0%, 13 cases improved accounting for 17.1%, 6 cases were ineffective accounting for 7.9% with a total effective rate of 92.1%.
Conclusion Acupuncture stimulates possibly relative nerves and their braches or stimulates the muscle spindle, tendon and other tissues around the eye, promoting restoration of functions of nerves and muscles.

ABSTRACT
Objective To search the objective basis for the effect of acupuncture, and auricular point sticking on contractibility of gallbladder.
Methods 76 cases of cholescystitis were treated by acupuncture, and auricular point sticking with Semen Vaccariae, and changes of the size and movement function of the gallbladder before and after fat diet were investigated .
Results After treatment the contractibility of the gallbladder increased significantly, tension of the gallbladder decreased, echo of the contractibility of the gallbladder reduced or disappeared, and the wall of gallbladder thinned, with ultrasonic “Murphy's Sign” turned to negative in 8.2% of the patients (all P<0.05).
Conclusion Acupuncture and auricular point sticking can strengthen contractibility of the gallbladder and have an obvious therapeutic effect on cholecystitis, and help restore function of the gallbladder.

ABSTRACT
Objective To expound that meridians and acupoints are composed of interstitial substances.
Methods Control and verifying studies were made according to meridian theories of TCM in combination with relative achievements of modern studies of meridians.
Results There were compound functions of loose connective tissue, liquid and Qi in tissue, nerves, blood vessels, lymph and other many substances in interstitial constructions between human skin, muscles bone and others.
Conclusion Meridians and acupoints are composed of interstitialsubstaces, and the liquid and Qi of tissue run in the spaces along meridians with regularity and essece and running law of meridians can be understood.
Effect of pricking blood therapy of acupoint on substance P in the rat of experimental allergic rhinitis Chen Yonghong, Lü Lin, Chen Hong , et al. ( Guanxgxi Institute of Folk Medicine, Nanning 530001, China)
Objective To explore the mechanism of pricking blood for treatment of allergic rhinitis.
Methods Model rats of experimental allergic rhinitis were established by ovalbumin, and model group, pricking blood therapy group, Chinese herb point-application therapy group and beclomethasone dipropionate ( BDP ) treatment group, and normal control group were set up, and contents of substance P in the hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal gland, plasma and nasal mucosa before and and after treatment were determined by radioimmunoassay.
Results The levels of substance P in the nasal mucosa in the model rarts were higher, and in the hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal gland and plasma were lower than those in normal control group ( P < 0.05) . After the treatment with pricking blood therapy, the level of substance P in the nasal mucosa decresed significantly and the hypothalamus, pituitary nad adrenal gland increased ( P <0.05 ), which were similar to those in the positive treatment control group ( P < 0.05 ).
Conclusion Point-pricking blood therapy has regulative effect on abnormal levels of substance P in the Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and the nasal mucosa in the rat of experimental allergic rhinitis.
Effects of eletroacupunture on expressions of bcl-2 m RNA and protein in the spinal cord in rats with early spinal cord injury Zhang Zhiying, Yu Ansheng, Yan Zhenguo ( Anatomy Department, Shanghai University of TCM, Sanghai 200032, China)
Objective To explore the mechanism of eletroacupuncture for treatment of spinal cord injury.
Methods Adult male SD rats were divided into model control group, electroacupuncture group, methylprednisolone group and sham operation group. Injury of T10 spinal cord was induced by modified Allen's methods and the expressions of bel-2 mRNA and protein were observed by in situ hybridization, immunohistochemical analysis and image quantitative analysis.
Results In the model group, expressions of bel-2 mRNAtended to increase 6 h after injury of the spinal cord and increased 24 h after the injury; expression of bel-2 protein did not change 6 h after injury and tended to increase 24 h after the injury. Expressions of bel-2 mRNA and protein increased in the electroacupuncture group as compared with the model group, with no significant difference as compared with the methylprednisolone group.
Conclusion Electroacupuncture can up-regulate the expressions of bel-2 mRNAand protein, so as to inhibit apoptosis and protect nervous cells in early spinal cord injury.
