Brief discussion on the role of manipulation of the pressing-hand in acupuncture treatment
Zhao Zongliao (Department of Scientific Research, Shaanxi College of TCM, Xianyang 712083, China)
ABSTRACT:
The role of manipulation methods of the pressing-hand in acupuncture treatment was briefly discussed. It is held that before acupuncture the methods function detecting acupoint location, diverting attention of the patient, relieving pain induced by acupuncture, disperse defensive energy and fixing the acupoint; in acupuncture, it can carry out needle insertion, promoting the circulation of Qi and guiding needle insertion and change circulation direction of meridian-Qi in combination with the needle-holding hand; after withdrawal of the needle, it carries out reinforcing and reducing manipulation, prevents meridian-Qi from going out and local stagnation of Qi and stasis of blood on the needled points and removes the stuck needle; therefore, in acupuncture treatment, you must pay attention to the role of manipulation methods of both the needle-holding hand and the pressing hand, and close cooperation of the two hands to exert more greatly the therapeutic effect of acupuncture.
